Foundation Course Levels

Our structured curriculum has 5 fundamental course levels followed by Master’s Level advanced training.

The 5 levels are designed to achieve a USCF rating of approximately 1000. Upon completion of all 5 Foundation Course levels, our students can enroll for highly-customized courses at the Master’s Level.

Beginner Level

Who Should enroll?

The course curriculum for this level provides a solid foundation for the game.
The curriculum for this level has been designed for absolute beginners or those who have only a basic knowledge of piece names and movements.

Curriculum

  1. Nature of the game
  2. Identify the squares
  3. Rules for movement of pieces
  4. Introduction to special moves
  5. Check, Checkmate & Stalemate
  6. Attack and Defense
  7. Special moves in detail
  8. Material and Exchange
  9. Draw
  10. Basic Strategies

Learning Outcome

Upon completion of this level, the student will be well versed in the basic rules of the game and will be able to play a full game over the board with friends/family members.

Beginner-Intermediate Level

WHO SHOULD ENROLL?

To enroll at this level, the student should have completed the Beginner level or the student must have equivalent knowledge of the topics covered in the above level.

The objective is to teach basic tactics along with basic openings (how to start a game).
The student will be taught to implement the concepts learnt in his/her games.

Curriculum

  1. Mate in one position
  2. Basic Checkmates with Queen and Rook.
  3. Basic Opening concepts
  4. How to notate a game
  5. Tactics – Double attack, Knight Fork, Skewer, Back Rank, Pin, Destroying the defender, Distracting the defender
  6. Mate in two positions

Learning outcome

Upon completion of this level, each student will be comfortable with tactics and basic openings. This chess level will also provide the student with basic knowledge and guidance for competing in chess tournaments.

Intermediate Level

WHO SHOULD ENROLL?

To enroll at this level, the student should have completed the Beginner-Intermediate course level, or the student must have equivalent knowledge of the topics covered in the above course level.
After building a strong foundation in previous course levels, the student will be ready to learn new strategic concepts to progress in the game. Theoretical endgame and new opening theories will be introduced.

  1. Defending a checkmate
  2. King and Pawn endgames
  3. Berger’s rule
  4. Rook endgames theory
  5. Openings Advanced Tactics
  6. Queen vs pawn on 7th Rank

Learning Outcome

Upon completion of this Chess Level, each student will have a good understanding of endgame, introduction to opening theory, and improved understanding of the game.
He/she will be able to regularly apply these concepts to their game and enhance their game. He/she will be ready to compete in tournaments at this point.

Advanced I

WHO SHOULD ENROLL?

To enroll at this level, the Intermediate level should be complete, or the student must have equivalent knowledge of the topics covered in the above course.
In this course the student will gain an extensive understanding of Advanced Tactics. Also, an opening repertoire will be prepared for all the students. To increase knowledge of the endgame theory, advanced endgame concepts will be covered in this course.
In this course, emphasis will be placed on the implementation of the opening, middle game and end game skills all at once.

  3. Windmill, X-ray attack
  4. Imbalance Concepts
  5. Positional strengths of pieces
  6. Pawn structures
  7. Advanced King and Pawn endgames
  8. Advanced Rook endgames
  9. Opposite color bishops endgame
  10. The principle of second weakness
  11. Combinations and Calculations

Learning outcome

At the completion of the Advanced 1 level, the student will be able to analyze positional play at opening, middle and endgame and will be able to play an advanced chess game with strong contenders.

Advanced II

WHO SHOULD ENROLL?

To enroll at this level, the Advanced I level should be complete, or the student must have equivalent knowledge of the topics covered in the above levels.
In this course the student will continue to gain an extensive understanding of Advanced Tactics. Former world champions’ classic games will also be analyzed.

Curriculum

  1. Pawn Endgames
  2. Positional weakness
  3. Openings gambits
  4. Anastasia's mate, Arabian mate, legal's mate, etc.
  5. Analysis of games of world champions

Learning outcome

The foundation level courses are now complete and the student is a strong chess player with a solid knoweldge of the game and his/her own game preference in regards to openings, middle and endgame techinques.

Masters Course

WHO SHOULD ENROLL?

At this point, a student can enroll with us for highly- customized Masters Level courses which are designed specifically for each individual student keeping in mind their strengths and weaknesses.

Curriculum

Masters Level Courses are uniquely designed to elevate your game to the next level. A brief analysis of each student's strengths/weaknesses will be taken into account before enrolling them for this customised level.
